The Cannanore Shop

Growing up as the proverbial Army brat, I have always been surrounded by craft and fabric from around the India. Having travelled extensively with my parents, I have grown up with the Taapi (traditional hat made of palm leaves from Assam), to hearing about Shrewsbury biscuits in Pune or Toda embroidery products from Ooty or fine Bengal cotton sarees that my mother draped or the classy bell metal lamps that adorned home. And when I started a home of my own, I always looked for something different - something that was made by our artisans. Terracotta pots, curtains from old sarees, and various handmade knick knacks picked up as we set up home! Oh and even smocked frocks for my little daughter! Friends would always ask me where I got everything from and would ask where I sourced them from. So this is how the journey of Cannanore started. I was a journalist and a content writer for over 15 years before the urge to work with craft and handloom took over. With my roots in Kerala, it was but natural to work with the fabrics of Kannur, the erstwhile Cannanore, which is internationally known for the splendid handlooms that it weaves. Of course, I couldn't contain myself to one town when there was a country of treasure available out there. I moved to craft and textiles, travelling to different parts of the country, amazed at how much we had to showcase to the world. Why not work with craftsmen and have products that are so unique and speak volumes of their tradition and history and of course the dexterity of the human hand passed down generations is what drove me to start The Cannanore Shop. Ably helped by friends and family, The Cannanore Shop has been in existence since 2010 taking baby steps to be what we are today. We don't come from a background in business. However, what drives Cannanore is sheer love and passion for all things handcrafted and the desire to support the many craftsmen across rural India under our umbrella to be seen and loved and appreciated. No factories. No mass production. Just honest, beautiful things made slow. From handwoven sarees and natural skincare to soft crochet toys and mindful home decor, every piece is one-of-a-kind. At The Cannanore Shop, we don’t believe in trends, we believe in stories.

We’re proud to be part of over 14,000 homes, offering you things that feel as good as they look.
